The third book in the exciting and sexy "Once Upon A Time In The West" Series from Lori Austin.
Rose Varner needs a man ...
But not just any man. The one known as "White Ghost with Hair of Fire." He may be the only way to rescue her daughter, Lily, from the Cheyenne. Legend has it he was once the Cheyenne’s captive, but his courage impressed them so much that they accepted him as one of their own. Yet the man Rose finds seems far from legendary
Luke Phelan’s tortured past has driven him to live as a recluse in the Smoky Hills of western Kansas. Having vowed to keep his distance from the Cheyenne, Luke refuses to accompany Rose on her rescue mission. But her bravery in the face of dangerous odds changes his mind. Now as they ride toward their destination, they’ll battle outlaws, bounty hunters, and their own rising desires before finding Lily. But the cost to Rose will be high, and her budding love for Luke will be put to the test

I want to introduce our new guest reviewer, Brenda, to Redheads. Make sure y’all give her a warm welcome! Here’s a little bio I talked her into writing up. 🙂
Hello everyone. I wanted to introduce myself so you can get to know me a little better. My name is Brenda and I reside in Northern Virginia with my hubby and our 5 year old baby spawn. I am a full time mom, full time student at WVU and a dive coach. In the very small amount of spare time I have, I devour romance books! I don’t have a favorite genre because I like to remain open-minded. I have a very long list of favorite authors but there are a few who have really pushed my love of reading romance. Erin Nicholas is by far one of my favorite authors and people; I’ve read all of her books at least a handful of times. Lorelei James’ Rough Riders and Black Top Cowboys series keep sucking me in book after book, and Molly Harper has me cracking up with her Naked Werewolf , Jane Jameson / Half Moon Hollow and Bluegrass Series!
I thrilled to be blogging for Redheads Review It Better and hope that you will stick with me as I learn the ins and outs of blogging and reviewing books!
Please feel free to find me on Goodreads.
I typically shy away from reading historical romances, but as soon as I started The Lone Warrior I was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. This is the story of Luke Phelan who is also known as The White Ghost with the Hair Of Fire, and Rose Varner which takes place in the year 1871. Luke had fought for the confederate army during the civil war and was caught and taken prisoner by the Union. In return for his freedom from prison, he agrees to head west and fight the Indians.
Rose came to Kansas from Boston to marry, her life was not simple and then even ore tragedy struck. The Cheyenne stole her young daughter, Lilly, and she vows to do anything in her power to find her. This means finding The White Ghost, who she hopes will be able to take her to the Cheyenne to find Lilly.
This story beautifully intertwines historical fact and a romance that evolves between Luke and Rose. Both are damaged from their pasts, headstrong and courageous, but they must learn to work together, Luke being forced to remember what life was like before he was with the Cheyenne and Rose to realize that Luke may know what is best in the trying circumstances they face. I was so impressed at the seamless way that Lori Austin blended the horrific story of Western expansion and the brutal reality of what happened to the Native Indians who lived in the territories, and the stories of the settlers trying to find a new life. It was a riveting read and I truly hope she does write a 4th book to explain Moze’s tale.
