The bad girl who stole his heart …
Valerie Willis has done it all: tattoos, one-night stands, even strip poker. And now she can add getting a messy public divorce to that list. Back in her hometown of Rock Canyon, Val just wants to bury her head and wait for the scandal to pass. But when she suddenly finds herself at a singles' weekend face-to-face with former flame Justin Silverton, hiding from her heart—and the sexy Marine—won't be that simple.
Is just too good to let go …
It's been ten years since Justin kissed Val, but he still remembers the way they just seemed to … fit. Since then he's served his country and helped his father keep their ranch intact, but he's never forgotten Val or her wild ways. So when a twist of fate brings him the chance to chase her across state lines and spend a weekend winning her heart, Justin's all in. Because when he sees something he wants, he fights for it. And he's ready to fight for the right to call this bad girl his one and only.
I was intrigued when I saw this cover – I mean, I wanted to know WHY Bad Girls Don’t Marry Marines. 🙂 This was a great, quick read that had me captured from the beginning. I instantly loved Val. Us short girls gotta stick together, you know? But other than her being vertically challenged, she was someone I would love to have in my small group of friends. She’s loyal to her family, even when they in no way deserve it, and she doesn’t let the cards that have been dealt her get her down but so much. If I was faced with some of the things she has I can’t say I would be holding up as well as she.
And Justin was this pleasant package that I wanted to bring home with me. I loved how he knew what he wanted, Val, and he was determined to not let her get away again. Yes, I said again. They met ten years ago and had quite a memorable night. And considering that night didn’t involve sex, they had to have had some chemistry zinging back and forth between them for them both cling to their memory of that night. And love that stuff. What kind of stuff do you ask? The instant pull between characters and the easy flow as if they have known each other for longer than that one night. Everything just clicks. But, in present day, everything isn’t exactly clicking with Val and Justin. Things happened after that special night that separated them and ultimately set them on two completely different paths. They both had their baggage and I really enjoyed reading how each handled the situations. It was really refreshing.
Ms. Codi was able to give us a great story that, even though it’s the third in the series, I was able to read as a standalone. You have no idea how much it will bother me when I’m reading a story and I’ve been told it can be read as a standalone, and come to find out it’s got all these characters from previous books who are paired up and you know they have their own stories and you feel like you’re missing out. Lol. I was happy to see that we briefly see previous characters but they aren’t all over the place. I know, weird thing to like about a book right? Eh. It’s important to me so I’m putting it here. I really like Val’s sisters and I am hoping Justin’s brother, Everett, gets his own book because I am a sucker for the wounded vet with visible scars and the person who falls for them can look beyond the surface. Gets me every time! Bad Girls Don’t Marry Marines gets a solid four stars for making me instantly fall in love with the book.
An obsessive bookworm, Codi Gary likes to write sexy small-town contemporary romances with humor, grand gestures, and blush-worthy moments. When she’s not writing, she can be found reading her favorite authors, squealing over her must-watch shows, and playing with her children. She lives in Idaho with her family.
