A fun, flirty crossover novel from bestselling authors Jennifer Bernard (the Love Between the Bases series) and Erin Nicholas (the Sapphire Falls series)
Caitlyn Murray has never let on that she's had fantasies about her brother's friend Eli Anderson for years. She'd do anything for the sexy, baseball star who's given it all up to stay in Sapphire Falls and take care of his family, but she and Eli are friends. Just friends.
So when her brother hatches a plan to get Eli to the pro baseball try-out for the Kilby Catfish that he has dreamed of and deserves, Caitlyn is all in. After all, what's a little kidnapping among friends?
A spot on the pitcher's mound for the Catfish isn't the only tempting thing about the spontaneous road trip. Eli already knows that Caitlyn is as sweet as the candies she makes for the Sapphire Falls bakery, but alone with her overnight in the tiny motel room in Kansas, it's impossible to resist the urge to take a little taste.
But when that taste leads to falling for the girl next door just as his front door is moving hundreds of miles away, can Eli really have it all? Or do they have too many strikes against them?
Yay, a Sapphire Falls fix! And an Erin Nicholas fix! And then I got a fix of something I didn’t know I wanted…Jennifer Bernard. I am embarrassed to say this is the first thing I’ve ever read of her, and surely won’t be the last. (Can we say helloooooo Trevor!) This duo created an addicting read. I was rather twitchy when I had to put it down when we had friends over for dinner. I was so close to the ending!
Our couple is a great match-up. Caitlyn is such a positive person-you really couldn’t help but wish she was part of your circle. And then there is Eli. I absolutely loved that he saw who she was, what made her tick, and how she operated. He already enjoyed her company, and let us not forget he had been attracted to her for quite some time, but wasn’t overtly realizing how much she was affecting him until she returned from Denver. Caitlyn was exactly the push Eli needed to go for his dream that has been on hold for some time. I love relationships that work more on positives (that don’t seem forced-those are always the worst) instead of negatives the whole time. Their relationship seemed quite realistic.
You know the usual trope where the hero is the one who is fighting against the relationship? I won’t say there is none of that, because there is just a little smidgen from Eli at first, but he was quick to realize Candy-girl (loved the nickname!) was the only one for him, but SHE was the one with reservations-mainly misplaced responsibility that she was the one to take care of her brother, Bryan. And can I add as a side note about how much I am looking forward to his story??? Yes? I have it on my calendar with reminders. No joke, people. 🙂
Now as you know, I am a die-hard Erin Nicholas fan (and can now include Jennifer Bernard to the mix), but I am not lying to you when I say this book is all sorts of fantastic! I say go ahead and invest in both of these series. You. Will. Not. Regret. It.
