Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Wellington was the FBI’s best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of captivity, her skills as a hunter of men had gone from merely brilliant to full-on uncanny. Her mysterious rescuer wants her to put them to the test. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel’s eyes and devil’s tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn’t trust him.
If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can’t wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won’t even tell Vinnie his real name. But there’s no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk.
And the way his arms wrap around Vinnie tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can’t hide his desire...
I loved the first book in this series, MERCURY STRIKING. We saw Raze in this book and he had me intrigued. We knew virtually nothing about the man size he was such a quiet man and kept to himself. At one point, I really thought I wasn’t going to like him. I was worried Ms. Zanetti was going to keep him closed off. What we saw was still a very private person, but one that is willing to change and someone who is VERY protective of those he cares for.
Vinnie was quite an interesting character. I liked how she was written. Not a “normal” woman we see in books. Her work focus was fascinating. The info she learned before the world went to hell put her in a dangerous situation with the “president” which had me worried. That man is freaking PSYCHO!
We see a hurdle the group has to face that has divided them. It’s funny how I feel like this is also something we are facing in our world today. Thankfully, we are given some more info that allowed the overall story to move forward some. I am still looking for many answers to things, but Tace and Sami’s story is up next (YES! I am very much looking forward to this one.) and I’m hoping since he is still in the process of going through the change after being infected, we will find out more answers. If nothing else, it’ll make their story exciting!
