Maya Goodwin doesn't believe in holding back. Ever. As a cop, she never hesitated to throw herself into harm's way to save someone. Even after an injury on the job forces her to retire, she's not afraid to keep risking it all to get the life she wants. With a new career teaching martial arts to kids already underway, she's looking forward to the future - and taking a chance on the unbelievably hot Dr. Alex Nolan.
Maya - daring and spontaneous - is the exact opposite of what Alex always thought he wanted. But when a nine-year-old daughter he never knew existed shows up on his doorstep, Maya is the one who helps them hold it together. With love on the line, will the guy who's always played it safe be willing to take the biggest risk of all?
I was looking forward to reading Maya. She is one tough female with a geeky soul. I don’t think there is enough heroines in the books I read that have their likes more aligned with superheroes and video games (shoutout to Kiera in Completely Yours). It’s a refreshing little additive to a great story. Things in Maya’s past have shaped her into the person she is today. Throughout the book, we get a clear understanding that she is someone who likes to help people any way she can. It’s ingrained in her bones. So it was not a surprise that she was attracted to Alex. Yes he was pretty different, but their base morals were the same.
Alex was a wonderful character. I love the really tough guys, but there are book boyfriends that come along and they are just a typical male and capture my heart just being who they are. Alex’s medical condition combined with his childhood experiences and his love for his newly discovered daughter showed me that he is has a good soul. His medical condition was an interesting thing to learn about and something that is practically never written about in romance books because, well, it’s not romantic. But it is an aspect of real life that I appreciated.
You won’t go wrong digging into this story. (I recommend starting with Completely Yours first, because, well, it rocks.) I just want you to know something imperative before you dive in…you’ll get sucked in and want to read all of Erin’s backlist! 🙂
